Eliya Nikki Cohen’s photography is dreamy, sleepy, sharp and fresh at the same time.
Real intimacy with the subject, whether it is a person or nature, is at the core of my work. Growing up camping and creating dreamlike worlds in the bush has led to an ongoing fascination with our experience with the natural environment. My photography expresses a subtleness that makes these images hyper real; there lies a strange ambiguity and uncertainty as the viewer is left to decipher whether the image is staged or if the work captures a brief moment of a sublime naturally occurring phenomenon. This series was created during numerous camping trips in America. The act of creating this moment for my friends was just as important as the photograph that it became.
